Lady Rough Riders softball had a busy week this past week, playing five games, going 3-2.
Their first game of the week was in Greeley against the Greeley Central Wildcats. This was the only game that was a league game. The Rough Riders won by an astounding score of 23-0.
The girls were left scoreless in the top of the first inning, then scored 23 runs in the following three innings. The game was called in the fourth inning due to the run rule.
Roz Muguerza took the circle in this one, pitching only three innings and striking out five, only walking one. She didn’t allow a hit. Lexi Arave took over in the bottom of the fourth, pitching one inning and striking out all three batters. The pair combined for a four-inning no-hitter.
Muguerza also had a perfect day at the plate as well, going 5-for-5, scoring three runs and two RBIs.
This past weekend the ladies played in a tournament in Loveland. Playing four games in two days. On Friday, they played the Longmont Trojans and the Rifle Bears.
Against Longmont, Arave took the circle again, pitching four innings, allowing five hits, and only one earned run. She also struck out four.
Muguerza, once again, had a perfect day at the plate. Going 4-for-4 with four runs scored.
The Rough Riders won this game 14-1. The game again being called after four innings due to the run rule.
The second game of the day came against the Rifle Bears, where the ladies won 12-11. Arave took the circle again and this time wasn’t as successful. Only getting one batter out, and allowing four hits, and six runs, all earned.
Makenzie Maddox relieved Arave. Pitching the remainder of the game, allowing 10 hits, five runs, with three of them earned, and striking out two batters.
With Roosevelt scoring two in the top of the first, and Rifle scoring six in the bottom of the first, the Lady Riders kept chipping away each inning. They scored three runs in each the second, third and fourth innings.
The offense was led by Muguerza, again, tallying three hits and three RBIs and two runs scored. Also, Cali Bly had three hits and one RBI.
Saturday, the ladies didn’t have an equally successful day as the day prior. Dropping both games, first to the Mead Mavericks by a score of 5-17, and to The Classical Academy 7-8.
The ladies look to get off the two game losing streak this week. Playing at Severance on Wednesday and then at home, against Berthoud on Thursday.
