The Lady Rough Riders softball team is looking to get some momentum going into the state tournament. The Riders are currently sitting at 137 overall and 10-4 in league play. They have won six of their last eight games. Four of those six wins being shutouts and run rules.
Head softball coach Vince Moreno says the team is doing “pretty good” and are looking good for the state tournament, currently sitting ranked 21st. The top 32 make it to state.
The team has three games this week, two in Greeley against Northridge and Greeley West. They finish the regular season out at home against the Wellington Eagles.
“I feel if we win one of out of the last three, we will be in,” Moreno said. “But of course, we are looking to go 3-0.”
When asked about hopes for state, and what he is looking to happen, Coach Moreno said, “I feel if we can back up our pitching with a solid defense and hit like we are capable of, we can make some noise and go on a nice little run. We also need to limit our walks from our pitchers and play errorless defense. We also have been doing a good job of getting runners on, but we also need to start hitting like we are capable of.”
With the state tournament coming up, “now is the time to get hot and put everything together,” Coach Moreno said.
The CHSAA State Softball Championship will be played at Aurora Sports Park on October 24 and October 25.
