Roosevelt High School boys soccer got their first win of the season this past week at home versus the Sterling Tigers. The Rough Riders scored not only their first goals of the season, but they ended the game with six. Defeating the Tigers by a score of 6-3.
The Rough Riders went down quickly, 2-0, but they bounced back and went on a 6-1 scoring run to end the game. Four of the goals coming in the second half.
Five different players scored six goals. The goals came from seniors Elijah Hendee, Aaron Arreola, and Tyler Baker. The other three goals coming from sophomores Wyatt Hurst, and two goals from Brasen Clemons.
Coach Tom Fajardo was proud of how the boys bounced back.
“The boys started off that game a little slower than we would have all wanted them to, falling two goals behind, but the boys never gave up and continued to work the ball together and scored an impressive six goals with five different players. I was proud of how they continued to work and not hang their heads when we were behind.”
The boys improved their record to 1-3 on the season with the win.
September 6, they played The Classical Academy in Colorado Springs. They lost 0-4, but given that it was a 0-7 loss last season to the same school, you’ll take that as a sign of improvement, which has been a big point of emphasis from the beginning of the season.
They play one game this upcoming week, at home versus the Valley Vikings tonight (Thursday) at 6 p.m.
